Monc's Story
Since launching himself as one of the World’s very first truly autonomous music artists in 1999-2000, Monc (aka Justin Nicholls) has experienced the joyful highs and exasperating lows of being a unique voice in contemporary music.
A prolific songwriter and composer with eccentric-soul sensibilities, whose work is constantly inspired by the sad and beautiful World and fantastical madness of the Universe.
Currently recording his fifth studio album he has scored over 100 Film & TV projects (see www.justinnicholls.com). He has created music for kids’ animation, adventure and Sci-Fi series, serious drama and “black comedy” documentaries. His BBC series “The National Trust” was a BAFTA winner for best Documentary in 2004.

Taking in a performance of British artist MONC and his eight-piece ensemble is like popping a capsule of pure bliss. This indie band emerges boldly on stage with its brass section (Ron Blake, Francisco Torres and James King) of one-eyed cardinals bursting their message of „see the future,‰ and Monc (guitar/lead vocals) giving a full-throttle performance, donning a top hat and wrangling up all the stars of the universe. The culminating result is a luminous, electric and infectious concerto arranged and produced by the Monc himself. With back-up vocals (Donna Taylor) like ribbons waxing the river, and a rhythm section (Ron Manaog, Joe Ayoub, Jamieson Trotter) drumming tongue-seeds of ancient sound, Monc turns any blue-laden disposition into a dancing celebration. Savor the performance from any nice corner seat at Molly Malones every Wednesday night through July; tickets are $7 and the show starts at nine.
